My First Week At Brookes

Hello and welcome to my first blog post on my website. I wanted to share my first week in Oxford and at Brookes, and give a summary of how I found it.

I had a very warm welcome from the staffing team on my course. I really enjoyed how we went headfirst and got stuck into our modules, it was really nice to get back into some sort of routine.

Our first task was to watch a short film featuring Brian Eno which talked about his journey in the music industry and quickly and efficiently note take as we went along, to show us the importance of note taking and how beneficial it would be to us. I found this to be really useful and through doing this little warm up I discovered that I actually write too much…

Then following on from that we were given a far more interactive task where we had quick fire questions we had to answer off the top of our heads to really engage with ourselves and our way of thinking. Through this I discovered my approach to learning is far more similar to that of a farmer than a cowboy i.e. I hone the skill set I already have rather than venturing out of my comfort zone, and it made me realise maybe I should give a go at both whilst I’m at university and see if anything comes of that.

Alongside my studies on my first week I also got to exploring Oxford. It’s so refreshing to be in a big city and to be able to explore freely after not being able to do so because of COVID.

A plus of being on the Headington Hill Hall side of campus is how green and refreshing it is, it’s a really nice place to study and catch some inspiration. I especially love walking around the grounds and taking in some of the architecture.

I already feel very at home here in Oxford 🙂
