Today we we’re introduced to the content of our critical thinking module for semester 2. I found this session really useful and engaging, and I foresee myself really enjoying learning more about it as the term goes on.
It will give us an insight into visual cultures and a space to reflect on the ethical and political implications of graphic design, as designers. In particular looking at the important themes of race, gender and ecology – something I haven’t really looked into myself before but as aforementioned think I will take a very strong interest to.
As well as this, in the session we had a bit of an ice-breaker where we had to watch a video by Novaro Media, a popular info channel, on YouTube in lieu of our 7 minute presentation that will be submitted at the end of the term, to get us to pick out the key presentation assets and skills we need to adhere to, and to get us to strengthen what we may already know about presenting as creative practitioners in our industry.
I found out that this term, unlike the previous one, we must provide a critical analysis through and through for everything we learn. This will involve a lot of further reading and research.
In a broad sense this module will hopefully allow me to gain awareness of the relationships graphic design has with political subjections. And I look forward to seeing what I discover.
