A key function of layout is to let the elements perform the task they’ve been selected for. Images of drama and emotion but how they communicate with the recipient depends upon how they are presented.
Scale
Scale applies to the size of the images and text it defines the importance we attach to an image. An image with a large-scale dominates the page and is the focus of attention yet making a graphic two large can result in suffocation. At a smaller scale it fears information or details getting lost or ignored.
Layout
Layout concerns the structuring of elements on a page so that they can communicate effectively with a reader. Absence of structure can also be used to convey certain characteristics in a design. Unstructured or messy design can be some of the most visually creative.
Juxtaposition
Juxtaposition is the deliberate placement of contrasting images side by side. In graphic design it can be used to present two or more ideas or aesthetics as to impart a relationship between them.
